About Scott Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga  –  S·A·V·Y

Scott Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with John & Julia Scott (S·A·V·Y) is one of the Oldest Contemporary International Yoga Schools that is committed to preserving and passing on the traditional Method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. With the Principal teacher John Scott (Jonny) being a direct student of Shri K Pattabhi Jois, Guruji (1915-2009), we at S·A·V·Y can ensure that the Parampara (Uninterrupted Series, Continuation, or a Succession) the passing of Knowledge from Guru to Sadhaka (student of a sadhana/spiritual practice) will not be broken. The teachings of yoga have been handed down from teacher to student for over 5000 years, with the intention of preserving its essential scientific method. S·A·V·Y aims to ensure these teachings will survive and continue to be a path that helps humanity to organise life into a Transformational Journey, opening doors to the realisation that the true purpose of life is to realise the true nature of our Heart and our Mind.

By honouring Parampara, new students to S·A·V·Y are invited to enquire and explore the pure essence of the Ashtanga: ‘Astau – eight, Anga – Limbs’. principles and methodology.

Second Generation

RECLAIMING YOUR OWN SOVEREIGNTY

Our 2nd Generation TT is called “RECLAIMING YOUR OWN SOVEREIGNTY” – Atha yoga anuśhāsanam

After all other systems that we have tried, we arrive at Yoga. Yoga is learning to respond/flow in the now/present, realising that this moment is Teaching us Yoga. Do you wish to become an exemplar to others, to shine lights to paths that lead to doors, unlocking the borders and boundaries of the limitations of normalcy, and to realise the Extra Ordinariness of Selfless Self and everything around us…and Freedom!

“Reclaiming Your Own Sovereignty” is the new Second Generation 200hr Teacher Training Program that S·A·V·Y is offering (see dates above)

The teachings on this course are packaged into an accredited Yoga Alliance USA 200 hour training course that invites aspiring yoga teachers into a life long journey to becoming not only competent teachers, but receiving a life long tool for personal growth and transformation.

The S·A·V·Y community is also a fertile learning ground for graduate teacher trainees as the learning experience doesn’t end with the completion of the course, it’s the opposite, the real development begins with opportunities to assist John & Julia on S·A·V·Y workshops and attending S·A·V·Y CPDs (continuing professional development courses) where all graduates with minimum 200 hrs can attend and meet kindred practitioners/teachers from all over the world to share experiences and new ideas.

S·A·V·Y RYT200

The primary aim of this S·A·V·Y Yoga Teacher Training Course is to continue the process of developing qualified teachers in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga world. The course is based on the Counted Method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as taught by Guruji, Sri K Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009) who was in turn taught it by his Guru, T. Krishnamacharya (1888-1989).

By honouring the Tradition and Innovation of these two inspiring teachers and continuing the Parampara, S·A·V·Y brings into the contemporary world of Yoga TT’s a teaching method that continues to be traditional yet innovative. All teachings are shared from the pure essence of Love, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity.

Sutra 1:3

tadā drastuh svarūpe avasthānam

– then in a state of Yoga the seer rests in it’s true nature

The secondary aim, and actually the most important aim of this Yoga Teacher Training Course, is to acknowledge that Practicing and Teaching Yoga is a life journey to realise what it is to experience ATHA – Now, in this physical life.

To actualise the meaning of sutra 1:3 “tadā drastuh svarūpe avasthānam” – “Then in a state of Yoga the seer rests in it’s true nature”.

In other words we wish for you to reclaim your own sovereignty and dominion of your Body-Breath-Mind, through Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, to use your body, your breath and mind as an instrument of consciousness to FREE YOURSELF. To free yourself from the Patterns of Conditioned Existence, from the Samasara, cycling of past Addictions, Habits, Actions, Words, Thoughts and Emotions.

Alongside the wisdom imparted, trainee yoga teachers will discover life skills that will equip them with the tools to develop both spiritually and professionally.

Monitored closely by the S·A·V·Y team in both practical and theoretical training, this course is an asset to those not only looking to train as a yoga teacher, but for individuals looking to deepen their practice and understanding of the Yoga teachings.

Please note:

As this course is shared from the core of our hearts and though we are reaching out to the student of yoga who also has an open heart and mind, we also want to see a student that is serious, dedicated and a sincere practitioner of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, one who appreciates this empowering discipline, understanding the time and dedication it takes to learn Yoga, become Yoga, and one who may want to share this knowledge traditionally, safely and professionally for the good and benefit of all.

“If we practice the science of yoga, which is useful to the entire human community and which yields happiness both here and hereafter – if we practice without fail, we will attain physical, mental and spiritual happiness and our minds will flood toward the Self”, Guruji.

“Turn to face the sun and all your shadows fall behind You” – Māori proverb.

“Sit comfortably, sit tall, with self supporting vertical spine, aligning your Head/Sun over your Pelvis/Earth, with your Heart/Moon perfectly aligned centre to centre between Head/Sun and Pelvis/Earth – when sitting in the ‘Posture of Eclipse’ there is..no shadow. You sit, bathing in your own internal radiance” – John Scott

Course Summary

The following summary will be helpful when assessing whether or not you are able to commit the time required to participate in the S·A·V·Y 200hr Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training Course.

This 200hr course is split into 3 modules:

1. Module One – 100hrs

Is a full hands on immersion into the Counted Method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

Module One marks the ‘halfway mark’ providing enough Material, Practice, Techniques and Strategies for the Trainee to start teaching small groups/classes. Trainees will then need to supply video clips of teaching before continuing into Module Two. Note: Module One can always be repeated.

The Second Half of the course, the last 100hrs, is split into two 50hr Modules. This is to not overload the trainee with information and gives the trainee additional time to both develop their personal practice and to practice the teaching method, skills and adjustments. Each 50hr module will be directly followed by an ‘Open Week’ of Assisted Self-Practice (Optional with additional fee, but recommended). This is a great opportunity to practice in a mixed level class, focusing on personal practice, learn by receiving and watching.

2. Module Two – 50hrs

Intensifying the immersion by diving deep into Asana Technique and Adjustments

3. Module Three – 50hrs

Revision, Assessment, Completion and Graduation.

Note: We only accept applications for the entire training, not individual modules

The home for our first TT module is located in a small village in the heart of Istria, the northern Adriatic peninsula of Croatia. Not far from the Slovenian and Italian borders, this part of Croatia is known for its gentle and mysterious ancient energy, felt through the story and history of the picturesque local towns, delicious food, nourishing supporting lands, and crystal clear Adriatic sea. The local towns are well known for their historical charm, while the quiet villages, green valleys and ancient olive orchards feel like an undiscovered slice of heaven.

We will live in a beautifully restored farm estate, a collection of four traditional stone villas-surrounded by lush, maintained gardens, and a serene atmosphere of the nearby vineyards and farms. The retreat is inspired by tradition and nature, creating an atmosphere of stillness as well as vibrancy of life. In addition to the communal kitchen and dining area, each villa has its own kitchen and dining space- so that you will always have access to a fridge, coffee & tea, and can even store or access your own snacks as you please. Each villa has its own swimming pool, with a pool area for relaxation.

How to Get There:

The quiet village is just a 30 minute drive from Pula airport.

Zagreb airport to Prascari is a 2.5-3 hour drive, and the airport is directly connected to many European capitals, some with low cost flights.

Trieste airport to Prascari is a 90 min drive. Venice airport is 2.5 hours away. (Arriving in Croatia from Italy).
